Birch Hill Recreation Pass
Free seasonal access to Fort Wainwright for Birch Hill visitors!
The Birch Hill Recreation Pass provides access to Fort Wainwright during Birch Hill Ski and Snowboard Area operating hours. A background check is required, and access is limited to Birch Hill activities.
The recreation pass is free. Lift tickets, tubing, day passes, and equipment rentals are sold separately.

Photo ID: REAL ID-compliant identification or other qualifying government-issued photo ID

Proof of residence: Must reside in Fairbanks North Star Borough, Delta Junction, Central, or Healy, Alaska
Minors must be accompanied by a parent or authorized escort. Escorts must also meet pass requirements.
Where to Get Your Pass
Visit the Fort Wainwright Visitor Center to complete the required background check.
Recommended processing hours:

Tuesday-Thursday: 11:30 AM-3:30 PM and 6-9 PM
Passes are also available during regular Visitor Center operating hours.
Please note: Recreation passes are valid only for access to Birch Hill. All installation policies and regulations apply.

- Freeze Out Fun Pass for Season Pass Holders

Extreme Cold Weather Closures
Birch Hill closes when temperatures reach minus 20 degrees Fahrenheit to keep guests and staff safe.
Temperatures are measured at the base of the hill and may differ from local weather forecasts.
Freeze-Out Fun Pass
Birch Hill season passholders may enjoy alternative MWR activities during extreme-cold closures, subject to facility hours and availability.

Whether you're a beginner or looking to improve your skills, Birch Hill offers ski and snowboard lessons for all experience levels.

Birch Hill Ski and Snowboard Area
Birch Hill offers skiing, snowboarding, and tubing for all ages and skill levels. With snowmaking capabilities, Birch Hill is typically one of the first ski areas in Interior Alaska to open each winter.

Terrain Park
Features rails, boxes, and jumps for skiers and snowboarders of varying skill levels.
Bunny Hill
A beginner-friendly slope with a Magic Carpet lift, perfect for learning to ski or snowboard.
Tubing Hill
Enjoy three 800-foot tubing runs with a lift to take you back to the top. No experience necessary.

Located inside the lodge, serving food and refreshments.
