Outdoor Recreation will host Boater Safety Courses May 20, June 3, and June 10 from 9 a.m. to Noon, and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. 

Non-motorized watercraft
Certification for non-motorized watercraft can be taken through the online Boater Safety Course. Print your certificate and bring to Outdoor Recreation for your Boater Safety Card to rent non-motorized boats.

Motorized watercraft
In order to obtain your certification for motorized watercraft, you must bring your printed certificate from the online Boater Safety Course, attend one in-person Boater Safety Clinic, and participate in the river portion of the class. This course is conducted rain or shine, so be sure to bring a raincoat. A Motorized Boater Safety Card is issued at the completion of the course and is valid for four years. Anyone renting a motorized watercraft from the Outdoor Recreation Center is required to have a Boater Safety Card issued from Fort Wainwright - Outdoor Recreation. There are no exceptions!
