Mush! Mush! Mush!

Mush on over to the Outdoor Recreation Center's Glass Park and get front row seating to see the mushers and their dogs sled on by for the start of this year's Yukon Quest Sled Dog Race.

Fairbanks is the start of this year's Yukon Quest Sled Dog Race, where 4-legged athletes run over 1,000 miles from Fairbanks, Alaska to Whitehorse, Yukon.

Create cheer signs, play in the snow with sleds and fat tire bikes, learn about the historic race, and have fun at this year's event.

Please note that pets are not allowed at this event. Please keep them at home.

How to dress for winter:
It's cold out there! Come dressed for the weather. Minimal indoor space will be available for warming up.

  • Wear layers
    • Start with a base layer (long underwear or fleece)
    • Add as many layers of wool or fleece to keep you warm
    • End with a windproof outer layer to protect you from the elements
  • Proper footgear is a must
    • Boots not only keep your feet warm, but they keep out snow! Warm socks that allow for movement within your boots will allow for air insulation.
    • Make sure that your toes have plenty of room to wiggle! A pocket of air between your socks and your boots is essential to a warm foot.
  • Don't forget about a hat and mittens/gloves!
